ABOUT ST. MARK
St. Mark Baptist Church's rich history spans over 49 years, beginning on April 4, 1976,
in a humble storefront in Garland, Texas. The reverend Rev. Dr. Roosevelt Griffin, a
man of unwavering faith and vision, was the driving force behind the church's
inception. He firmly established St. Mark's foundation upon the bedrock of Bible-
based preaching, coupled with a strong emphasis on Christian education and fostering
spiritual growth within the congregation. Under his dedicated leadership, the church
persevered through several relocations before finally finding a permanent sanctuary
on Rowlett Road. This landmark achievement saw the construction of the main church
building in 1984, followed by the establishment of the Roosevelt Griffin Education
Building in 1989, a lasting tribute to the founding pastor's enduring legacy.
The church experienced significant growth and paid off its mortgage, a testament to
the community's dedication. The year 2009 brought profound sorrow with the passing
of Rev. Dr. Griffin. Following a period of transition, Rev. Dr. George Duncan assumed
the role as the second pastor of St. Mark in 2012, guiding the church through a new
era. Under his leadership, the church made advancements to bring even more souls
to Christ. Pastor Damion Wheaton, St. Mark’s third senior pastor, served faithfully
from 2018 to 2024. In March 2025, a new chapter began as St. Mark elected its fourth
senior pastor, the highly esteemed Rev. Christopher Williams.
Rev. Williams arrival brought a renewed sense of purpose and direction. His visionary message, quote;PRESSING FORWARD TOGETHER," deeply rooted in Philippians 3:14, resonated strongly with the congregation.

Rev. Williams leadership inspires the church to honor its past while boldly embracing
the future. St. Mark continues to build upon the sturdy foundation laid by Rev. Dr.
Griffin, carrying forward a legacy of faith, service, and community. As the church
moves forward, there's a shared excitement for the future. With faith as their guide
and unity as their strength, St. Mark Baptist Church stands poised to make an even
greater impact, touching lives and spreading hope for generations to come.
